School Events 2015\2016

Planting is ongoing in school garden at the moment.

The ladies in Ballymartle ICA planted some beautiful marigolds and begonias  as well as a blackcurrant bush in the fruit garden.

The herb garden is situated in tubs  in the sensory garden Ms. Murphy's 4th class planted parsley, thyme, oregano, sorrel, mint, dill and coriander. We hope to plant chives and lemon balm soon.

The rockery had to be dismantled due to the building of our 2 new classrooms. So we moved the beautiful bay tree next to the bug hotel, near the wildflower garden.

'1916 Proclamation Day Commemoration' on Tuesday, 15th March in the School Hall saw great excitement and celebration. Preparations for this unique historical celebration began earlier in the year and the pupils' musical, dance and literary presentations were most impressive. A Ceili Mor in the soccer court were a fitting finale! Well done to Mrs. Hickey (co-ordinator), Ms. Moynihan (Bean an Ti), Mr. Dinneen (musical director) and to all staff and pupils for ensuring such a memorable day.

New Defibrillator for the School

Through the successful advocacy of the Parents’ Association, BioMarin (a local Cork-based pharmaceutical company), has kindly donated a new defibrillator to the school.  A presentation was made by Mary O’Connor (BioMarin) to the school just prior to the Christmas holidays.  The school is grateful to BioMarin for its consideration and such a generous gesture and also to the Parents’ Association for its continuing efforts to add to the pupils’ school experience in so many areas.

Our Spring Flowers

Look at all the flowers telling us that Spring has arrived. Junior Infants planted tulips in pots.  Irises are growing outside the prefab. The bulbs planted in Autumn in the pots in the Gáirdín Draíochta have grown into beautiful grape hyacinths and crocuses. Mrs. Hellstern's class planted bulbs in pots on their classroom windowsill. They will make wonderful presents for Mother's Day.

Daffodils and snowdrops grow all by themselves along by the fence and under the beech hedge.

The Irish Naval Service visited the school

The Irish Naval Service visited the school on Tuesday, 01st December 2015. They spent some time reading the 1916 Proclamation and talking on the Proclamation & the events of 1916.  They presented the Irish Flag to our school.

Congrats to the Girls team winning the Sciath na Scol football Championship 2015. They played Gaelscoil Uí Riada in the final.

Well done to the girls on becoming the Carrigdhoun Football winners!

Ballymartyle Team School visit

The Ballymartyle team won both the Junior A and Junior B South East Hurling Finals recently.  They defeated Ballinhassig in both games.  We were lucky enough to have the team visit with former County Mayor Alan Coleman this September.
